Bethany of ButterKup Flowers

Hi I’m Bethany and I am greedy for miracles.

I started ButterKup Flowers in 2013 after years in a traditional florist where conventional wisdom held that Americans didn’t really care where their flowers came from. Customers, the conventional wisdom said, wanted roses year round, didn’t mind the use of toxic floral foam, and didn’t need to know that flowers grown on the other side of the world were hosed down in chemicals before during and after harvest. Besides, said that ever helpful Conventional Wisdom, it would take a miracle to revive the American flower economy.

Well, funny thing about miracles is that when you look for them, they tend to pop up.

Flower farms are blooming all over the US and here in the mid-Atlantic there are hundreds of miracle workers, bringing organic flowers, birds, bees and assorted pollinators back to Maryland and Virginia.

I work with these farms to bring their blooms to customers in the DC area, such as M & M Plants, where Mark and Madgie McGaughan taught me the nitty gritty dirty fun of flower farming and Suzanne Montie of Red Chimney Flower Farm, who generously lends me space to grow my own flowers.

I hope you’ll join me on this mission by following my IG feed and contacting me for flowers for your next special day. Just click on the little icons below and let’s get something miraculous to you soon!
